Agility Training Classes

Enhance your dog’s agility and response skills with expert-led training classes

Class Overview

Welcome to our Agility Training Classes

Dog agility training is a sport where dogs navigate through a timed obstacle course under the guidance of their handlers. The obstacles typically include jumps, tunnels, weave poles, A-frames, see-saws, and various other structures.

The objective is for the dog to complete the course accurately and as quickly as possible while the handler provides verbal and non-verbal cues to guide them through the obstacles.

Agility training requires coordination, communication, and teamwork between the dog and its handler. It’s not only a fun activity for dogs and their owners but also a great way to enhance a dog’s physical fitness, mental sharpness, and obedience skills.

Join us for an exhilarating agility training class where you and your dog will embark on an adventure of fun, learning, and teamwork!

Under the guidance of our experienced instructors, you’ll navigate a dynamic course filled with tunnels, jumps, weave poles, and more.

Benefits

Reasons to love agility training

Mental Stimulation

Agility training engages your dog’s mind by requiring them to problem-solve and make split-second decisions while navigating obstacles. This mental stimulation can help prevent boredom and reduce undesirable behaviours stemming from pent-up energy or lack of mental stimulation.

Physical Exercise

Agility courses provide a fun and effective way for dogs to burn off excess energy and maintain physical fitness. The high-intensity nature of agility training promotes cardiovascular health, muscle strength, and overall agility.

Fun and Enjoyment

Agility training is not only beneficial but also incredibly fun for both you and your dog. The excitement of conquering obstacles and the joy of working together as a team create memorable experiences and strengthen the bond between you and your dog.

Enhanced Relationship

Participating in agility training strengthens the bond between you and your dog as you work together as a team to navigate through various obstacles and challenges.

Courses for all Abilities

Progress your dog through staged development

With courses for all abilities, we make it easy for your dog to progress through the stages.

Beginner Courses

Beginner Agility is a fun interactive class that introduces you and your dog to jumps, tunnels and basic changes of directions and turns. By the end of 6 weeks, you will be linking 3 or 4 obstacles together.

Our Beginners Agility Class provides a fun and supportive environment for you and your dog to learn together while laying the groundwork for more advanced agility training.

Intermediate Courses

To level up to the Intermediate Course your dog will begin to learn Contacts (A Frame, Dog Walk & Seesaw) and Weaves. Your dog will continue to develop their jumping skills and learn new turns.

Our Intermediate Agility Course provides a challenging yet rewarding environment for you and your dog to continue honing their skills, preparing them for more advanced levels of agility training and potential competition participation.

Advanced Courses

Advanced Agility focuses on teaching your dog to run longer sequences and small courses. They will be confident with all contact equipment and continue to learn how to weave.

In our Advanced Agility Course, participants can expect to focus on fine-tuning their skills to a high level of precision, preparing for competitive agility, and exploring more complex training concepts and proofing.

Competition Courses

Competition Agility is designed to have you and your dog ready to run full courses. You and your dog will be confident to use all equipment and ultimately make you both competition-ready!

Competition agility courses are designed to challenge both handlers and dogs while showcasing their agility skills, teamwork, and athleticism. It’s an exciting and adrenaline-filled sport that fosters camaraderie among competitors and celebrates the bond between humans and their canine companions.

Have a question in mind?

Frequently Asked Question

  • Will Agility be good for my dog?

Agility is good for dogs who are very sociable with other people and dogs, love to learn a new skill, are fit and healthy and have energy to burn.

  • Does my dog need to have done obedience training?

To get the most out of Agility training, your dog will need a basic recall (come back to you when called in a space with other dogs and people). Your dog will also need an understanding of the ‘wait’ cue. These can be taught in our obedience classes (Please click here)

  • Will I be able to compete in Agility competitions?

Hannah teaches for both enjoyment and competition. If you decide to compete, she can help you progress by talking you through how to enter competitions and walk courses.

  • What age should I start doing Agility?

Dogs can start training agility in our classes at one year old and any time after that. If you have a dog under one year old but would like to start agility training, you can do this on a one-to-one basis. Foundation behaviours can be taught in one-to-one sessions. (Please click here.) These will include groundwork, tunnels, and body awareness. However, they do not include any of the impact aspects of the sport until your Dog is over 12 months old.

  • Does my dog have to be friendly?

For the enjoyment and safety of your dog, we can only allow dogs who are friendly to other dogs and people at all times. We do offer 121s for dogs who aren’t comfortable being in a class environment. (please click here)

  • Which dog sport should I choose Agility Flyball or Hoopers?

Agility, Flyball, and Hoopers are all very active for dogs, and it can be hard to decide which to choose.
Agility is the most active for both Dog and handler, Flyball is in the middle, and Hoopers are active for your dog but do not involve running for the handler.
If you’re not sure which to do, why not do a one-to-one taster for each so you can decide which direction to take? Why not do all three?

  • Is Agility suitable for all breeds?

Yes, it absolutely is. However, it is vital that all dogs who take part in agility are very fit and healthy. Dogs should also not be overweight, as this can injure them when doing agility. If you are unsure if this applies to your Dog, please consult your vet before signing up for Agility.

  • How many people can come to Training?

We think it’s really important that the whole family can be involved in your Dog Training. If you have any family members who wish to come along, please feel free to bring them along. You can attend with up to four people, including children. Please make sure an adult always accompanies children.

  • What do I need to bring?

Flat collar, harness or head collar and lead. Please don’t bring extender leads, slip leads or choke chains.

Good quality treats such as cheese, JR pate, chicken or other soft meaty treats – not their normal kibble. Treats can be purchased at the centre or by visiting www.naturalchoicepetfoods.co.uk where you can use the ‘pick up’ option at the checkout so they’re ready to collect before your session.

Poo bags – Just in case!

    Small blanket/bed

Favourite toy/tuggy & a filled Kong – your puppy will need something to keep them busy when your trainer is explaining the exercises!

Please make sure you wear suitable clothes and shoes for these sessions, pockets or a treat bag (treat bags also available at the centre) are essential.

Please feel free to bring your own water and your dog’s water bowl unless you are happy for your dog to use the shared communal bowls.
