Reactive Dog Obedience Classes

Transformative training for owners of reactive dogs

Class Overview

Welcome to our Reactive Dog Obedience Classes

Classes are kept small, between 4 and 6 people with a large personal training space for each dog and handler. Designed to allow dogs who are overly fearful, aroused or who can potentially be reactive, to gain confidence and manners around other dogs and people, in an environment designed to set them and their handlers up for success.

The goals of the class are to teach daily management skills and obedience, build trust between the handler and their dog and teach methods to reduce reactivity.

Have a question in mind?

Frequently Asked Question

  • Can I join these classes if I think my dog would be suitable?

You will need to have a 121 with Sarah or Miranda to accurately assess if your dog is suitable for these classes. Click here to book a 121.

  • My dog hasn’t been in classes before, is this the right class for them?

If your dog is unsure of dogs and/or people we recommend to book a 121 with Sarah or Miranda to assess if your dog would be suitable for these classes. (please click here)

If your dog is happy around other dogs and people then our Obedience classes would be suitable for them and you can click here to find out more.

  • What do I need to bring to a class?

Flat collar, harness or head collar and lead. Please don’t bring extender leads, slip leads or choke chains.

Good quality treats such as cheese, JR pate, chicken or other soft meaty treats – not their normal kibble. Treats can be purchased at the centre or by visiting www.naturalchoicepetfoods.co.uk where you can use the ‘pick up’ option at the checkout so they’re ready to collect before your session.

Poo bags – Just in case!

    Small blanket/bed

Favourite toy/tuggy & a filled Kong – your dog will need something to keep them busy when your trainer is explaining the exercises!

Please make sure you wear suitable clothes and shoes for these sessions, pockets or a treat bag (treat bags also available at the centre) are essential.

Please feel free to bring your own water and your dog’s water bowl unless you are happy for your dog to use the shared communal bowls.

  • My dog is only sometimes reactive, should I choose these or normal obedience classes?

First you will need to a book a 121 with Miranda or Sarah (link here). During this 121, they will be able to assess the severity of your dogs reactivity levels and book you in to the correct course.

  • You offer different levels, which one should I pick?

Beginners/intake – this class focuses on teaching the basic skills needed to stop your dog from reacting. The space between the dogs and people in this class is bigger and the exercises are easier. This is a good place to start.

Improvers/Life Skills – this class is for dogs who have got better coping skills with other dogs. Perhaps they have been attending the reactive obedience classes for more than one term. It is in this class we start your levels journey.

Advanced/Indoor Training Classes – Dog attending these classes can be reactive but have managed to reduce the distance they require to feel safe to a really small bubble. This class is also suitable for dogs who have attended normal obedience but struggle due to the lack of space, with only four dogs and handlers in a class you get the attention from the instructor you need, exposure to other dogs and people, and you will be working towards your levels awards.
