1-2-1 Obedience Training

Achieve faster results, master commands and improve your dog’s obedience with 1-2-1 training sessions

Class Overview

Welcome to our 1-2-1 Obedience Training

Obedience 121s at Sussex County Dog Training are personalised and tailored to your dog training goals. From learning tricks to perfecting that loose lead walking, our obedience 121s can help you achieve your goals.

Engaging in one-on-one obedience lessons offers a range of benefits tailored to the unique needs of both the dog and their owner. Firstly, personalised attention allows for targeted instruction and tailored training plans based on the individual strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles of the dog. This customised approach enables efficient progress and effective problem-solving, addressing specific obedience challenges with precision and care.

Additionally, one-on-one sessions foster a deeper understanding of canine behaviour and communication, empowering owners to develop a trusting, harmonious relationship with their dog. Furthermore, the focused environment of a 1:1 lesson reduces distractions and facilitates concentrated learning, leading to quicker results and greater retention of skills. Overall, participating in one-on-one obedience lessons enhances obedience, strengthens the bond between dog and owner, and promotes a happier, more fulfilling partnership based on mutual respect and cooperation.

Frequently Asked Question

  • What sort of things can be taught in a one-to-one obedience session?

Absolutely anything can be taught in the sessions except where fear, aggression, and anxiety are present.

Examples of what people use one-to-one sessions for the most are:
    • Basic manners
    • Walking nicely on a lead
    • Behaving well in the house with family and guests
    • Teaching the dog not to steal
    • Teaching the dog to come back
    • Teaching the dog not to jump up
    • Working on our levels system and the kennel club good citizen scheme award on a one-to-one basis
If your dog is displaying aggression or anxiety guarding, we would advise you to book a behavioural one-to-one session. This is because different trainers with different specialisms take either the obedience or the behaviour sessions, and you will need to see the right trainer.

  • How many people can come to Training?

We think it’s really important that the whole family can be involved in your Dog Training. If you have any family members who wish to come along, please feel free to bring them along. You can attend with up to four people, including children. Please make sure an adult always accompanies children.

  • My dog is barking at other dogs / people, is an obedience 121 right for me?

We advise booking a Behavioural 121 with Sarah or Miranda (Please Click Here) for this issue. We would also advise booking a behavioural 121 for any resource guarding, aggression or anxiety cases. Our obedience 121s are for walking nicely on lead, recall, not jumping up, trick training etc.

  • What do I need to bring with me?

Flat collar, harness or head collar and lead. Please don’t bring extender leads, slip leads or choke chains.

Good quality treats such as cheese, JR pate, chicken or other soft meaty treats – not their normal kibble. Treats can be purchased at the centre or by visiting www.naturalchoicepetfoods.co.uk where you can use the ‘pick up’ option at the checkout so they’re ready to collect before your session.

Poo bags – Just in case!

    Small blanket/bed

Favourite toy/tuggy & a filled Kong – your dog will need something to keep them busy when your trainer is explaining the exercises!

Please make sure you wear suitable clothes and shoes for these sessions, pockets or a treat bag (treat bags also available at the centre) are essential.

Please feel free to bring your own water and your dog’s water bowl unless you are happy for your dog to use the shared communal bowls.

  • How many sessions should I book?

It is unlikely that your trainer will be able to solve your problem in one session, so we always suggest you book three one-to-ones, and you can do this in a bundle. 1-2-1 sessions for obedience are £32 for a 25-minute session; however, you can book three 121 sessions for £80, which saves £16.

If you decide we are not the trainers for you, you can have any unused 121s refunded as long as you give us 48 hours ‘ notice. Booking sessions in advance prevents you from waiting long periods between sessions, due to our popularity and reputation our trainers often get booked up weeks in advance.

Ideally, you will see your trainer weekly or fortnightly, but if your budget or lifestyle prohibits this, please leave no longer than three to four weeks between sessions.

  • Where do I meet my trainer?

After you arrive, please head to our reception/shop and let a member of our team know you’re here. There are benches out the front where you can wait or you can browse the shop and your trainer will find you.
