1-2-1 Behaviour Training

Transform your dog’s behaviour with expert, individualised 1-2-1 training

Class Overview

Welcome to our 1-2-1 Behaviour Training

Behavioural 121s at Sussex County Dog Training offer personalised guidance to address specific behavioural issues your dog may be experiencing. We will focus on understanding the root causes of the behaviour and implement effective strategies for positive change using positive reinforcement.

Engaging in one-to-one dog behaviour sessions offers tailored benefits for both the dog and their owner. Firstly, personalised attention allows for a comprehensive assessment of the dog’s behaviour issues and the development of a customised behaviour modification plan.

This individualised approach ensures that specific behaviour challenges, such as anxiety, aggression, or fearfulness, can be addressed effectively with targeted techniques and strategies. Additionally, one-to-one sessions provide a focused environment for learning, allowing the owner to receive personalised guidance on understanding their dog’s behaviour, implementing training exercises, and practising management techniques. Furthermore, the bond between dog and owner is strengthened through collaborative problem-solving and positive reinforcement, fostering trust, communication, and mutual understanding.

Overall, participating in one-to-one dog behaviour sessions promotes a harmonious relationship, enhances the dog’s well-being, and empowers the owner with the knowledge and skills to address behaviour issues effectively.

Have a question in mind?

Frequently Asked Question

  • What problems can the trainers help me with in a behavioural one-to-one?

    • Growling, barking and lunging towards other dogs and/or people
    • Inter pack fighting within the Home
    • Resource guarding
    • Protective behaviour
    • Territorial behaviour
    • Separation anxiety
    • Obsessive-compulsive behaviours
    • Aggression
This is not exhaustive. If you are unsure if we can help, please get in touch with us.

  • Who should attend the sessions?

Ideally, with behaviour work, anyone who lives with the dog should attend the sessions or at least the first one. Without a whole household on the same page, changing Dog behaviour can be difficult. There is no limit on the number of people attending these sessions.

  • Where should I meet my trainer?

If your dog shows signs of aggression towards other dogs or people, growling, barking, or lunging, please wait in your car. The trainer will come and find you in the car park. If your dog is not reactive, please head to our reception.

  • What should I bring?

Flat collar, harness or head collar and lead. Please don’t bring extender leads, slip leads or choke chains.

Good quality treats such as cheese, JR pate, chicken or other soft meaty treats – not their normal kibble. Treats can be purchased at the centre or by visiting www.naturalchoicepetfoods.co.uk where you can use the ‘pick up’ option at the checkout so they’re ready to collect before your session.

Poo bags – Just in case!

    Small blanket/bed

Favourite toy/tuggy & a filled Kong – your dog will need something to keep them busy when your trainer is explaining the exercises!

Please make sure you wear suitable clothes and shoes for these sessions, pockets or a treat bag (treat bags also available at the centre) are essential.

Please feel free to bring your own water and your dog’s water bowl unless you are happy for your dog to use the shared communal bowls.

  • Should I have a behaviour one-to-one session or a home visit?

In almost every case, we suggest a one-to-one behaviour assessment at the centre first. This means that we can assess you and your dog’s behaviour and what is required to get you on the road to recovery. Sometimes, we will then suggest a home visit. This is more likely to be the case if the behaviour you’re struggling with is home-based, such as inter-pack fighting, separation anxiety, or territorial behaviour.
In most cases, we can teach you and your dog at the centre, which allows you to see us more often and frequently than if we did home visits. The more support we can give you, the more likely you are to resolve your behavioural problem.

  • How many sessions should I book?

It is unlikely that your trainer will be able to solve your problem in one session, so we always suggest you book at least three 1-2-1s. If you decide we are not the trainers for you or your trainer can solve the problem sooner, you can have any unused 1-2-1s refunded as long as you give us 48 hours ‘ notice.

Booking sessions in advance prevents you from waiting long periods between sessions; due to our popularity and reputation, our trainers often get booked up many weeks in advance.

Ideally, you will see your trainer weekly or fortnightly, but if your budget or lifestyle prohibits this, please leave no longer than three to four weeks between sessions.
