Have a question in mind?

Frequently Asked Question

  • Will Agility be good for my dog?

Agility is good for dogs that love to learn a new skill, are fit and healthy, enjoy retrieving and have energy to burn.

  • Does my dog need to have done obedience training?

To get the most out of Agility training, your dog will need a basic recall (come back to you when called in a space with other dogs and people). Your dog will also need an understanding of the ‘wait’ cue. These can be taught in our obedience classes (click here)

  • Will I be able to compete in Agility competitions?

Hannah teaches for both enjoyment and competition. When you decide you would like to compete, she can help you progress by talking you through how to enter competitions and walk courses.

  • What age should I start doing Agility?

Dogs can start training agility in our classes at one year old and any time after that. If you have a dog under one year old but would like to start agility training, you can do this on a one-to-one basis. Foundation behaviours can be taught in one-to-one sessions.(Please click here.) These will include groundwork, tunnels, and body awareness. However, they do not include any of the impact aspects of the sport until your Dog is over twelve months old.

  • Which dog sport should I choose Agility Flyball or Hoopers?

All dogs are great fun, but agility, Flyball, and Hoopers are all very active for dogs. It can be hard to decide which to choose.
Agility is the most active for both Dog and handler, Flyball is in the middle, and Hoopers are active for your dog but do not involve running for the handler.
If you’re not sure which to do, why not do a one-to-one taster for each so you can decide which direction to take? Why not do all three?

  • Is Agility suitable for all breeds?

Yes, it absolutely is. However, it is vital that all dogs who take part in agility are very fit and healthy. Dogs should also not be overweight, as this can injure them when doing agility. If you are unsure if this applies to your Dog, please consult your vet before signing up for Agility.

  • How many people can come to training?

We think it’s really important that the whole family can be involved in your dog training. If you have any family members who wish to come along, please feel free to bring them along. You can attend with up to four people, including children. Please make sure an adult always accompanies children.

  • What should I bring

Flat collar, harness or head collar and lead. Please don’t bring extender leads, slip leads or choke chains.

Good quality treats such as cheese, JR pate, chicken or other soft meaty treats – not their normal kibble. Treats can be purchased at the centre or by visiting www.naturalchoicepetfoods.co.uk where you can use the ‘pick up’ option at the checkout so they’re ready to collect before your session.

Poo bags – Just in case!

    Small blanket/bed

Favourite toy/tuggy & a filled Kong – your dog will need something to keep them busy when your trainer is explaining the exercises!

Please make sure you wear suitable clothes and shoes for these sessions, pockets or a treat bag (treat bags also available at the centre) are essential.

Please feel free to bring your own water and your dog’s water bowl unless you are happy for your dog to use the shared communal bowls.
